Our assistant editor is split between gourmands and fresh greens for her holiday perfume picks.
My holiday favourites tend to split pretty evenly between rich, yummy and edible (think hot chocolate, gingerbread and pomegranate) or crisp, fresh and green (freshly fallen snow, pine trees, crisp cold air). So naturally my holiday gift wish (to both give and get this holiday season) is similarly split.
Rich and edible
I can’t resist an indulgent and decadent hot chocolate—all the better when all you have to do is add warm milk and a couple gourmet marshmallows. If you’re looking for a gift a little less luxe—but no less delicious and holiday scented—try a package of ginger thins. For a touch of the gourmand without the calories, try a vanilla scented candle. You’ll get all the sweet, holiday vibes as well as a cozy and inviting atmosphere.
Williams-Sonoma Double Dark Hot Chocolate & Vanilla Marshmallows Set, $56, www.williams-sonoma.com. PEPPARKAKA Ginger thins in tin, $6, www.ikea.com. WoodWick Vanilla Bean Hourglass Candle, $30, www.thebay.com.
Crisp and green
Pine is one of my favourite smells all year round, so it makes sense that I get very excited come December. The best gift you can get someone who loves the smell of pine is, of course, a freshly picked Christmas tree, but the second best is a pine-scented candle. For a beauty pick, try a minty fresh lip balm or bring a little bit of the magical outdoors in, with a pretty and festive art print.
Thymes Frasier Fir Pine Needle Candle, $40, www.well.ca. Saje Wellness Tingle Lips Lip Balm, $5, www.saje.com. Winter tree art print, $26, www.society6.com.
