Kristen Stewart is the face of the new Gabrielle Chanel perfume

Chanel announces a new perfume to debut this fall, starring Kristen Stewart.

Kristen Stewart is no stranger to being the face of a perfume—remember Balenciaga Florabotanica and Rosabotanica? But since the 27-year-old has been a Chanel ambassador since 2013, that iconic French fashion brand is undoubtedly her label of choice. (The Personal Shopper actor recently modelled for the brand’s bags and makeup collections.) It makes sense then that when Chanel decided to launch a new fragrance, its first standalone perfume in 15 years, it turned to the millennial star to represent it.

The inspiration: Gabrielle Chanel

The as-yet-to-be-launched perfume, named for the brand’s founder, is all part of Chanel’s “The Year of Gabrielle”, a campaign that focuses on the brand’s iconoclastic matriarch, her character and her legacy. It includes images, new products such as the perfume mentioned here and a handbag too, plus videos (below).

The muse: Kristen Stewart

The actor is best known for her role as Bella in the Twilight movies, but has since shifted her focus to more serious (and award-worthy) roles in movies like Clouds of Sils Maria, Café Society and Lizzie. Stewart’s also upped her red carpet game, and always adds a touch of rebellion or daring to her (often Chanel) ensembles: Sneakers with a ball gown, chiselled cheeks and saturated blush with a romantic blouse. If the brand is channelling rebellion and irreverence à la Coco, they’ve certainly found a kindred spirit in Stewart.

Chanel: Up next

The new Gabrielle Chanel fragrance is set to launch in September 2017 along with the Kristen Stewart campaign. Created by Olivier Polge in collaboration with the Chanel Fragrance Creation and Development Laboratory, we have high hopes. The video campaign was shot by British director Ringan Ledwidge and the print campaign was executed by Karim Sadli.

    I remember that balenciaga didn’t renew her contract after one year, so they didn’t think she was doing a very good job for them. Why Karl keeps giving her more work is a mystery to me. She’s so obviously just a shill, someone who sold out to hawk products they don’t themselves use.

    She never carries a handbag, she doesn’t wear designer ensembles in her real life, i doubt she wears perfume since she usually looks like she hasn’t showered or shampoo’d in a week. Her candid pics look like she reeks of stale cigarette smoke and weed.

    I’m surprised Chanel hasn’t been on her about cleaning up her image. Those heavily photoshopped cosmetics ads they put out of her aren’t fooling anyone. Especially when she’s so happy to stick her tongue out and make the V symbol with her many girlfriends for their IG’s.
