Rose, citrus, wood: This month, a gorgeous scented candle, a remix of a Guerlain classic, and an inspired detox deodorant perfume the moment.

Fall is synonymous with rich scents. As the weather chills and we come back inside to entertain and to cocoon, the smells of a crackling hearth, home baking and rich woods seduce and comfort us. But before we dive deep into the season and its signature aromas, we’re appreciating the olfactory middle ground where fall’s spicy, dark and moody notes are tempered by elegant roses and crisp citrus.

Habit Rouge Dress Code: Guerlain reimagines a classic

Perfumer Thierry Wasser pays homage to Habit Rouge, the masculine fragrance launched by Guerlain in 1965 named for the scarlet-hued jackets of dandyish fox hunters.

The new generation spritz opens with bergamot, neroli and rose playing against a backdrop of patchouli, cedar and spices. The scent then evolves to highlight a delectable animalic yet gourmand-style base where notes of Tonka bean, leather, vetiver and vanilla praline swirl.

This is a sexy scent that has both modern sparkle and a certain je ne sais quoi complexity typical of this grand brand.

A rose-scented detox for your beauty and wellness rituals

If you’re constantly on the lookout for a natural, aluminum-free deodorant that you can count on, look to Takesumi. This deodorant stick uses bamboo charcoal to fight odor-causing bacteria but also, as per its “detox” moniker, it works to draw out toxins from the body. Consider it a vegan cleanse for your sweat glands.

Oh, and about its scent: Love the true-to-the-bloom fragrance. A literal breath of fresh air compared to the faux-florals typical of mass brands.

A sultry scented candle with sparkle and sass from Atelier Cologne

Some argue that citrus is the favoured note with which to scent your home. And we do love a vibrant grapefruit or lemon jazzing up a space, but why go solo citrus when you can perfume your space with citrus in combination with aromatic herbs, woods and flowers?

The Bergamote Soleil scented candle from Atelier Cologne will help you craft a complex and ever-so-chic aura for some 50 hours of burning, thanks to its many-noted ingredient list which includes Calabrian bergamot, jasmine, ambrette, cardamom, vetiver, oak moss and white amber.

This will surely help you ease into autumn in style.

Deborah Fulsang has spent the last two decades as a journalist covering news and trends in the worlds of style—in fashion and beauty, design and décor, food and entertaining. Her long-held love of fragrance led her to launch The Whale & The Rose, a destination for all things perfume-related. Now, when she indulges in a crazy-expensive bottle of fragrance, she can do so guilt-free. Well almost. It’s all in the name of research after all.
