September perfume launches work for warm and cool climes

New fragrances from Jo Malone, Aerin Lauder and Burberry take you from summer to fall in style

As we prepare our wardrobes for fall, we’re on the lookout for pieces that are versatile: items that work just as well with steamy September afternoons as they do with cool autumn evenings. Likewise, we’re on the hunt for perfume that celebrate the last days of summer, while embracing the briskness of fall. Good thing this month’s perfume launches are similarly minded.

Jo Malone Basil & Neroli is a heady, green floral with personality

Neroli and basil are the main notes (as the name suggests) in this latest offering from Jo Malone, and they work together wonderfully to create a green scent that has real presence. It’s spicy and sharp, but also woody with a touch of floral. This category-defying spritz will bend to the weather accordingly: It’s bright to suit the autumn sunshine, but weighty enough to wear with your new cashmere and leather too.

Burberry My Burberry Black is sultry, inviting

Attempting to capture a London garden at dusk, perfumer Francis Kurkdijan mixed notes of jasmine, candied rose, peach, amber and patchouli to impressive aromatic effect. The scent is warm and dark, and the resinous note of amber, especially when combined with patchouli, makes this a great scent to pair with a T-shirt this month, and a turtleneck and Burberry trench next.

Aerin Tangier Vanille is warm and worldly

Vanilla, that rich warm edible note that so many of us are drawn to, finds an exotic home alongside rose, bergamot, musk, sandalwood and amber in this new perfume from Aerin Lauder. Although inspired by Morocco, the scent is light than you might think when the sook is your muse. There’s serious warmth here and a hint of sweetness, but the fragrance is more chic than candy, sophisticated and definitely not saccharine. This one’s ideal to pack for your next tropical vacation but it’s also perfect for the fall season as its warmth will add a certain glow to your style statement.
$220 (100 ml),
