Summer denim styles and scents to match

Summer denim styles and scents to match

By Alexandra Donaldson

Last week we wrote about the similarities between the way we shop for fragrance and the way we shop for denim. With that in mind, we’ve decided to have a little fun by matching up our favourite summer denim with scents that are great for the warmer weather.

If you live in jean cut-offs in the summer, try updating your look with a white pair from Fidelity Denim. Paired with light coloured tees and beachy hair, you will of course need a sunshiny scent to match. Our choice: Calvin Klein Eternity Summer for Women. Notes of green pear, mandarin, watermelon and pink peony send a breezy light-hearted message, while the spritz’s sandalwood reminds you to get outside and enjoy the sunny warmth of this too-short season.

If you’ve embraced the overalls trend, then this summertime scent is the perfect companion to that garment’s nonchalant fashion mindset. Wear The Body Shop’s new Fuji Green Tea fragrance with a boyfriend-style pair to complement the relaxed vibe. Green tea, jasmine and violet mingle with bergamot and mandarin for an earthy, subtle unisex scent. Pairs well with summer roadtrips and picnics.

Denim on denim gets a trendy update with this Guess look. For a scent to match this fitted, sexy style, we chose Versace’s Bright Crystal Absolu, a floral citrus scent that combines lotus flower, magnolia, yuzu and pomegranate for a slightly sweet, slightly sultry scent. Wear for dinner al fresco on on date night. Either way, the fashion and the fragrance are made for dancing the night away under patio lanterns.

The must have denim piece for spring is undoubtedly the button-down skirt. It’s versatile, retro and fresh, so breathes new life into your denim wardrobe—or rather your wardrobe in general. Paired with a chambray button-down shirt, the blue-on-blue effect is summery, cool and collected. The scent to match: Balenciaga’s L’Edition Mer. This blue-bottled spritz includes notes of living green shiso leaf, seashell accord and yuzu; it’s warm, sunny and oceanic. And we guarantee that when you wear it with head-to-toe blue, you’ll feel anything but.
Zara denim shirt, $46, and skirt, $50, and Balenciaga L’Edition Mer, $145 (75 ml),
