Very berry

Very berry

Cherries, strawberries, currants and raspberries: The latest crop of berry-laced fragrances comes tailormade for this season of popsicles and proms. Not that you wouldn’t wear these juicy scents past the prom-going age. We just think they’re best suited to summertime’s shorts-and-flipflops-required activities.

Escada Cherry in the Air undercuts its black cherry and raspberry notes with citrus. An almost-edible mix of vanilla, marshmallow, sandalwood and musk steers it clear of the sickly sweet and into a more sophisticated arena. Escada Cherry in the Air EDT, $62 (50 ml),

Although billed as a single-note strawberry scent, we also detect nuances of green strawberry leaves too. Fun and young, and meant to be worn with short-shorts. The Body Shop Strawberry EDT, $14 (30 ml),

Wondering what to sport with those super-cute flower-print trousers you just scored—or for that matter, prom? Try the tropical-smelling Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh Sunshine Edition spritz with its juicy fruits—red currant, guava, mandarin and lychee—and warm florals and skin-like notes. EDT, $85 (75 ml),

Of course Guess’ take on berry has a little sex appeal thrown into the berry mix. Raspberry is the berry of choice here but it’s mixed with melon, citrus, lily and sultry vanilla and sandalwood. Guess Girl EDT, $60 (50 ml),

Deborah Fulsang has spent the last two decades as a journalist covering news and trends in the worlds of style—in fashion and beauty, design and décor, food and entertaining. Her long-held love of fragrance led her to launch The Whale & The Rose, a destination for all things perfume-related. Now, when she indulges in a crazy-expensive bottle of fragrance, she can do so guilt-free. Well almost. It’s all in the name of research after all.
